1-    Introduction :

The Olympic Games are very important worldwide. In this report, I will write about some aspects of the Olympic Games. The report will consist of some parts; the introduction, the history of the Olympic Games, their advantages and finally I will conclude by stating why this topic is interesting and what I have learned about it.

2-    The Olympic games :

The Olympic Games are very well known around the world as all countries of the world have the right to take part in them. The games included in the Olympics are many as they include jumping, cycling, running a marathon, javelin throwing, weight lifting and many other sports. In the Olympics champions from all the countries of the world compete to achieve certain titles. It is considered a great honor for any athlete to win a medal or a title. Medals are classified into gold, silver and bronze. The winner receives a gold medal, the second receives a silver medal and the third receives a bronze medal. The OlympicGames give the skilled athletes the chance to display their abilities and skills. More than two hundred countries from all over the world take part in the Olympic Games. TheOlympic Games have also given the teenage and the amateurs the opportunity to participate in the Olympics. Nowadays, women also have the right to take part in the Olympics and women from various countries have already achieved good titles. Although the Olympic Games were only restricted to the Greeks, modern Olympics are available for everyone whether a professional or even an amateur. Every country of the world is represented by a National Olympic committee that is in charge of its athletes in different games.

   History :

Greece was the first place to witness the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games were originated in Greece in the city of Olympia and it was first held in the 8^th century B.C and continued till the 4^th century A.D; then some changes began to occur in the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games were first held as religious and athletic celebrations as the Greeks thought that the ultimate goal of the competition in the games was to be the best. In addition, winning a victory at the Olympic Games was considered a great honor. This made the athletes compete strongly not for gaining material goods, but to prove that they were the best and to gain the honor of victory. The Greeks were very interested in teaching boys how to be skilled athletes. The modern Olympic Games date back to 1894 as it began with the founding of the international Olympic committee. The Olympic Games are held every four years, but in 1916, 1940 and 1944 they were not held because of the World Wars. The modern Olympic Games add new games every round and recently disabled people have had the opportunity to participate.

     Advantages :

There are various advantages for the Olympic Games. One of these advantages is that they give the champions from all over the world the chance to have the honor of achieving titles. They can achieve honor for their countries and also fame and fortune for themselves.  Another advantage is that the Olympic Games bring people together and make them more understanding and co-operative. They remove the cultural barriers and help people remove the ethnical differences.

The Olympic Games are a message to the whole world that people have to co-exist peacefully with each other and achieve victories and honor rather than being engaged in wars and disputes. It is also a message that people have to eliminate all types of racial discrimination and achieve fairness and equality. There are also a lot of economic advantages as the host country flourishes economically during the season of holding the Olympic Games. The visitors who flock to the host country spend a lot of money and make all the activities flourish and prosper.

  Conclusion :

In conclusion, the Olympic Games are very important for the countries and for all the sportsmen as well. They provide the golden chance for a lot of athletes to achieve fame, fortune and help in removing the cultural differences between the peoples of the world. Olympic Games also are golden opportunity to remove the cultural barriers as they make the peoples of the world understand the cultures of others. This is a very interesting topic to me because I have learned a lot about this international championship and its great advantages.

The Armed Forces Officers Club Abu Dhabi:

The Armed Forces Officers Club Abu Dhabi was envisaged and materialized by His Late Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It was the result of his ardent desire to provide a modern and fully equipped complex dedicated to the Officers of the UAE Armed Forces.

Dame Mary Elizabeth Peters

Dame Mary Elizabeth Peters was a British athlete born in Halewood. She moved to Ballymena at the age of eleven. She won the gold medal in the summer Olympics in Munich. She also won 2 gold medals for the pentathlon, in addition to a gold and a silver medal for the shot put. Marry peters supported the Springhill hospice in Rockdale. In her honor, N. Ireland’s premier athletics track was named after her on the outskirts of Belfast. Mary Peters now lives in Lisburn.
